Lebenslauf
Univ.-Prof. Eike Steinmann studierte Biologie an der Leibniz Universität Hannover - mit dem Fokus auf Virologie, Mikrobiologie und Molekularbiologie. Nach einem DAAD-Stipendium für einen Aufenthalt an der Northeastern University in Boston fertigte er seine Diplomarbeit bei Prof. Herrler am Institut für Virologie der Tierärztlichen Hochschule Hannover mit dem Thema "Das Matrix-Protein des Virus der vesikulären Stomatitis" an. Für die Arbeiten zum PhD wechselte Dr. Eike Steinmann an das Institut für Molekulare Virologie der Universität Heidelberg und forschte in der Gruppe von Prof. Bartenschlager an der Funktion des p7-Proteins im HCV-Replikationszyklus. Mit seinem Betreuer Prof. Thomas Pietschmann wechselte er dann an das TWINCORE. Seine Forschung konzentriert sich auf verschiedene Aspekte des HCV Zusammenbaus und seiner Freisetzung, sowie der Suche nach neuen antiviralen Targets. Weiterhin untersucht er die Umweltstabilität und Empfänglichkeit des HCV für Desinfektionsmittel.
