DGKH approved research project on applied hospital-hygienic questions

The DGKH (German Association for Hospital Hygiene) approved a joint research project of the University Hospital Essen – Institute for Medical Microbiology and Dr. Brill + Partner GmbH – Institute for Hygiene and Microbiology. The research project has a duration of six month and will start on November 1, 2016. Head of the project is PD Dr. Jörg Steinmann in Essen and Dr. Florian H. H. Brill in Hamburg. The project will focus on the following applied hospital-hygienic questions:1. Do disinfectants based on alcoholics or oxygen releasing agents have the same efficacy against clinically relevant fungi in comparison to the reference strains Candida albicans and Aspergillus brasiliensis?2. Are there differences in the sensitivity against disinfectants between antimycotic-resistant and -sensitive isolates of the same species?Preliminary results will be presented during the 12th Ulmer Symposium Krankenhausinfektionen in March 2017. Afterwards results will be published. We are glad that the DGKH has an interested in this project and hope that we will be able to answer some important and relevant scientific questions.
