"Pathogens from the Arctic: What is the real risk?" is the title of the poster which will be presented at the ASM conference "Microbe 2018" (https://www.asm.org/index.php/asm-microbe-2018) by Diana C. Mogrovejo-Arias on Saturday 09th, June in Atlanta, USA. Autors are Diana C. Mogrovejo-Arias and Dr. Florian H. H. Brill, Dr. Brill + Partner GmbH Institut für Hygiene und Mikrobiologie, Hamburg.

Dr. Florian Brill wurde im Rahmen der 1. Sitzung 2018 der DGKH-Fachkommission "Hygienische Sicherheit medizintechnischer Produkte" als Mitglied aufgenommen. Der Antrag auf Mitgliedschaft wurde einstimmig angenommen. Die Bestätigung seiner Mitgliedschaft in der Fachkommission durch den Vorstand der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Krankenhaushygiene e.V. ist bereits erfolgt.Dr. Florian Brill was admitted to the DGKH commission on "Hygienic safety of medical technology products" as part of the first meeting in 2018. The application for membership was accepted unanimously. Confirmation of his membership in the commission by the board of the German Society for Hospital Hygiene e.V. has already taken place.

Am 9. April 2018 wurden auf Norderney zwei Kalmare gefunden. Die genaue Bestimmung der Tiere durch Bernd Daehne, Dr. Brill + Partner GmbH Institut für Antifouling und Biokorrosion ergab, dass es sich dabei um Große Pfeilkalmare handelt. Da derartige Funde äußerst selten sind, wurde sowohl in der Zeitung Norderneyer Morgen, als auch in der Norderneyer Badezeitung darüber berichtet. Möglicherweise profitieren die Tiere von den Fundamenten der Offshore-Windkraftanlagen, da Kalmare ausreichend Hartsubstrat für ein Leben auf dem sonst sandigen Meeresboden benötigen. Zwischenzeitlich wurden unserem Institut weitere Funde von Norderney und Baltrum gemeldet.

Since November 2017, the Dr. Brill + Partner GmbH Institute for Hygiene and Microbiology is a network member of the new project “Alternative methods to animal experiments“ (funding code: 16KN077201). The project is funded by The Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM - Zentrales Innovationsprogramm Mittelstand) of the BMWi and coordinated by the EurA AG. Am 15. Dezember 2017 wurde im Bundesrat die Änderung der Trinkwasserverordnung verabschiedet. Mit der Anpassung der Verordnung hat der Gesetzgeber im Wesentlichen die Verantwortung und somit auch die Haftung für die Analyse und den Probenahmeprozess gemäß §14 Trinkwasserverordnung (TrinkwV) auf das ausführende Labor übertragen. Alle damit verbundenen Änderungen sind bereits zwischen unseren Partnern und uns geregelt. The Hygiene, Infection & Health (HIHeal) project aims to establish a cross-cluster network in hygiene, infection & health along a joint value chain between the Gesundheitswirtschaft Hamburg GmbH and Life Science Nord Management GmbH clusters. Watermann / LimnoMar, Norderney, have been merged. At our site on Norderney we will continue to offer under the supervision of Dipl.-Geogr. Bernd Daehne and under the umbrella of Dr. Brill + Partner GmbH research on fouling and antifouling, testing for shipping industry, offshore industry, mariculture and recreational craft. We combine these activities with the existing activities in the field of biofilm, biofouling and microbial induced corrosion (MIC) in our new Institute for Antifouling and Biocorrosion.
