New research project on “Transformation and model solutions for roofs of the blue-green city”

Over the next three years, Hydrotox will be working on the ReFoPlan joint project “Implementation of the sponge city: Identification of the 10 most effective levers of the necessary transformation and sustainable model solutions for roofs of the blue-green city” on behalf of the Federal Environment Agency. Project partners are the Institute for Ecological Economy Research (IÖW, overall project management), landscape architect Prof. Dr. Manfred Köhler, the Water Technology Center (TZW) Karlsruhe and Goetz & Heintze Garten- und Landschaftsbau GmbH. Hydrotox is in charge of work package 5 “Laboratory tests” and is carrying out ecotoxicity tests on building product eluates and roof run-off water in particular.

The British Standard PAS 2424 is very popular with many of our clients. It is designed for bactericidal and levurocidal efficacy of chemical disinfectants on non-porous surfaces. But did you know that we also offer the standard for virucidal issues? If you are interested in testing, or if you would like to learn more about the modifications that were necessary for virucidal questions, we are at your disposal. Take the chance now to test your product according to PAS 2424.

The draft of the Guidance on the Biocidal Products Regulation, available since the beginning of the year in the now 6th version, includes for the first time concrete requirements for the testing of protective agents for liquids in cooling and process systems (PT 11) as well as slimicides (PT 12). The required methods, such as ASTM E645 or E1839, have been established in our laboratory for years, enabling us to implement the tests at short notice. Our Scientific Service will be pleased to assist you in selecting the appropriate test conditions for your very specific application. If claims for efficacy against biofilms are desired, we also have suitable test methods in our portfolio. We look forward to your inquiries!

Our 9th Conference of Applied Hygiene, Microbiology and Virology will take place this year on 30 November + 01 December 2023, again as a hybrid event online and in the picturesque Hamburg Speicherstadt. You can look forward to exciting lectures and key note lectures by, among others, Professor Dr. Kurt-Wilhelm Stahl, Freiburg, as well as Dr. Florian H. H. Brill.

This year's "International Conference on Prevention & Infection Control (ICPIC)" will take place in Geneva from 12.09.2023 to 15.09.2023. The search for PhD students for the ICEBIO research project has now been successfully completed. The second phase of the project, which is now starting, will focus on training the PhD students for upcoming sampling and laboratory experiments.

ICEBIO is a PhD network that will train the next generation of experts in glacier microbiology and biogeochemistry. ICEBIO will provide a database of the functional diversity and potential of the glacier biome, which will not only greatly improve our understanding of a threatened biome, but also demonstrate the potential for exploiting economic and ecological services.

Dr. Brill + Partner GmbH will, among other things, provide a risk assessment regarding pathogenic organisms from the glacier biome, including the inclusion of bacteria, fungi, and viruses.

The General Meeting of the VUP elected a new Presidium today in Berlin. Dr. Florian H. H. Brill, Raimund Föhrenbacher, Dr. Emine Gökçe, Dr. Eckard Jantzen and Dr. Birgit Schumacher will lead the association in the next 2 years on a voluntary basis. Jutta Fink and Arthur Hofmann retired from the Executive Committee and were thanked very much.

From our company, Dr. Florian H. H. Brill, Dr. Diana Mogrojevo and Vanessa Wiencke are co-authors on the presentation "ANTIMICROBIAL TESTING OF WOUND DRESSINGS USING A STANDARDIZED WOUND INFECTION MODEL" by Cornerlia Wiegand.
